If you are in the market for a new truck to drive in Joplin, MO, there are two models that have likely caught your attention. The Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500 share a lot of similarities. In fact, they even use the same platform and provide the same engine options. But that doesn’t mean they are identical. Here is how they compare
Performance
The Chevy Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500 both offer the same four engines:
- Standard 2.7-liter turbocharged I4 (310 horsepower, 430 pound-feet of torque)
- Available 5.3-liter V8 (355 horsepower, 383 pound-feet of torque)
- Available 6.2-liter V8 (420 horsepower, 460 pound-feet of torque)
- Available 3.0-liter turbo-diesel I6 (305 horsepower, 495 pound-feet of torque)
Both trucks also have the same maximum towing capacity of 13,300 pounds. The difference? The Sierra 1500 starts equipping the 5.3-liter V8 engine lower in the trim lineup, starting with the third-tier SLT trim. The Silverado 1500 doesn’t come standard with a V8 until the sixth trim in the lineup.
Technology
Again, a glance at the technology feature lineup of both the Chevy Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500 reveals several of the same features. These include a standard seven-inch touchscreen, an available 13.4-inch touchscreen, and an available Bose® premium sound system. Once again, the Sierra 1500 equips premium features on lower trim levels than the Silverado 1500. The Sierra 1500 only has the smaller touchscreen on the base Pro trim, with all higher trims getting the 13.4-inch display. The Silverado 1500 provides the larger touchscreen as standard equipment on the fourth-level LT trim and higher.
The available Bose® sound systems are one of the few areas where these trucks offer notably different equipment. Both the Sierra 1500 and Silverado 1500 offer an available seven-speaker Bose® premium sound system. However, the Sierra 1500 also offers an available 12-speaker Bose system on the highest Denali Ultimate trim. This audio system isn’t available for the Silverado 1500.
